When It Means More Than The Numbers

Pele’s transformation has been about so much more than just losing weight or getting stronger.

After a pretty horrific motorbike accident and multiple operations, he’d lost a lot of trust in his body. Things that most people take for granted suddenly felt difficult, and confidence in movement wasn’t there anymore.

His journey started with Pilates and manual therapy with Nikki at Encore in Kings Langley. The goal was to reduce pain, improve mobility, and make everyday movement and work feel easier again.

Once he had built that foundation, Nikki suggested having some time on the gym floor to focus on rebuilding global strength, resilience, and confidence. This was the starting point of what Pele and I worked on but we also set goals to reduce body fat and build muscle.

We started simple. Relearning the basics of the gym, loading movement patterns he’d learnt in Pilates with body weight exercises and with the support from resistance machines and then to free weight exercises and compound lifts.

Fast forward just two and a half months, and the results have been incredible. Multiple personal bests in lifts like the bench press and back squat, 4.5kg of fat mass lost, 1kg of muscle gained, and almost 25cm total off his tape measurements.

For pele I don’t think the biggest win is the numbers. I think it’s being able to work more without feeling completely written off afterwards, and having the confidence and the ability to throw himself into his day job, getting into compromised positions and holding equipment all day long. He’s is absolutely thriving, and this is only the beginning.

Well done Pele 🎉🎉
